A meeting dedicated to the honest use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by students and faculty was held at the Scientific Library of the National University of Water and Environmental Enineering (NUWEE).
Viktor Korbutiak, Head of the Education Quality Department, delivered a presentation titled "Policy on the Honest Use of Artificial Intelligence at NUWEE." During his speech, he outlined the main goal of implementing the policy on the honest use of AI at the university, highlighted legislative norms, and discussed the concept of AI use in Ukraine, as well as the principles for using generative AI. The attendees also learned about the principles of AI use at NUWEE, its advantages and risks, and the areas in which AI can be used during both educational activities and scientific research. He also covered cases of AI technology use with and without descriptions, the marking of AI usage, and the correct citation of AI sources. Furthermore, Viktor Korbutiak mentioned that in the future, NUWEE will offer training on the proper use of AI, including how to formulate queries and more. Additionally, participants were able to scan a QR code to access a free course titled "From Beginner to Expert in AI."
Importantly, the meeting took place in a dialogue format, allowing everyone to express their opinions and views on the honest use of AI at NUWEE. Constructive comments and suggestions will be taken into account in the development of a document on the honest use of AI at the university.
Oksana Chumak, Head of the Department of Innovative Educational Technologies, presented a report titled "Interpretation of Similarity Reports Using the New Tool for Checking Document Originality, StrikePlagiarism.com." During her presentation, Oksana shared how the level of independence in the author's work is assessed, including the degree of plagiarism or copying, the number of suspicious fragments, the determination of similarity coefficients, the functions of the similarity report, the meaning of the colors used in the report, and the content of the similarity report. Most importantly, she explained how to write a paper in a way that would pass a plagiarism check.
