NUWEE’s students  are participants of the International Competition "Black Sea Science"

This year's International Competition of Student Scientific Works "Black Sea Science", which took place at the Odesa National University of Technology under the auspices of the Black Sea Universities Network and the ISEKI-Food Association, once again demonstrated the diversity of ideas, non-standard views of student youth on solving many important problems that are of significant importance in modern society.

Overall, 362 works (in six directions) from Ukrainian and foreign educational institutions were submitted to the competition. The jury of the competition involved 144 experts-researchers, 92 of whom are from 23 foreign countries, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, China, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, and others.

NUWEE students participated in the competition with works in three directions:

  • "Information technologies, automation and robotics"

Scientific work: "Practical application of anomalies detection algorithms in the water reservoir monitoring system",  by Yuriy Demchuk, a first-year master's student in Computer Science, under the supervision of Ph.D., Associate Professor Zhukovska N. and Ph.D., Associate Professor Zhukovsky V.;

  • "Ecology and Environmental Protection"

Scientific work: "Model studies of hydrobionts reactions to the presence of microplastics in the aquatic environment", by Anastasiya Yakhnyuk, a first-year master's student in Ecology, under the supervision of D.Sc., Professor Bedunkova O.;

  • "Tourism and Hotel-Restaurant Business"

Scientific work: "Volhynia – a tourist gateway from Europe to Ukraine", written by Roman Bolotyuk, a third-year student majoring in Tourism, under the guidance of senior lecturer Yakovyshyna M.

Evaluation of the works was in two stages: first, the review of the works by two independent experts; second, defending the work at the final online conference in English with a presentation. Only 25% of the works from the total number of participants in each direction advanced to the second stage of the competition.

Unfortunately, the works of Yuriy Demchuk and Anastasiya Yakhniuk did not make it to the finalists and participants of the second stage.

Roman Bolotiuk's work received the highest score in the first stage, 99 points (out of 50 works submitted in the "Tourism and Hotel-Restaurant Business" direction). In his research, Roman explored the possibility of making Volhynia a gateway from Europe to Ukraine, considering that sooner or later our country will have to reopen to international tourism after the war. Roman's perseverance, ability to present research results coherently, and proficiency in English secured him the second place in such a prestigious scientific competition.(http://isc.ontu.edu.ua/wp-content/uploads/sites/50/2024/03/2024-2-Tourism.pdf)

In 2023, Roman participated in the same competition for the first time and ranked 14th among 32 participants.

Sincerely congratulations to Roman Bolotiuk and his academic supervisor, Yakovyshyna M., on their victory. We wish them strength, energy, inspiration in their further scientific pursuits, and success in their realization! To the other participants - don't stop, believe in your abilities, and remember that only the persistent and determined conquer the peaks.
