Education for Sustainable Development

A mixed-format roundtable discussion “Education for Sustainable Development” was held in the university conference hall.

The event was attended by academics, students, and interested parties. In total, over a hundred people were interested in the topic of education for sustainable development.

Rector Viktor Moshynskyi addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. Rector outlined the transformations in higher education, emphasized the importance of reorienting teaching and knowledge transfer with the establishment of dialogue, the initiation and practical solution of sustainable development problems both in Ukraine as a whole and in the region.

The report "Education for Sustainable Development" was made by the Head of the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection Technology and Forestry Mykola Klymenko. In particular, he outlined the goals and objectives of education for sustainable development, the main stages, the legal and regulatory framework of the process, changes in the content of education and educational processes, noted the participants of the process and areas for its improvement.

Alla Pryshchepa, Director of the Institute of Agroecology and Land Management, spoke about the combination of sustainable development goals with the fields of knowledge and specialties in which higher education applicants are trained. The report also discussed the training of personnel for sustainable development, the global goals of sustainable development, and the importance of the educational program in achieving the goals of sustainable development.

Senior specialist of the World Bank Nataliia Konovalenko shared with the participants of the round table international practice of competencies for sustainable development.

Svitlana Zubilevych, professor of Accounting and Audit Department, spoke about the current challenges of sustainable development for Ukrainian enterprises.

At the end, the participants shared their thoughts, discussed proposals and directions for implementing the principles and ideas of sustainable development at the NUWEE.
