In connection with the war, the university shifted its focus to charitable and volunteer activities.
The National University of Water and Environmental Engineering (NUWEE), the Centre forInternational Cooperation and Education:
- conducts free courses and creative workshops for internally displaced persons (IDPs);
- initiated and implemented the program "Education without Borders" (as a response to the war in Ukraine), which is available to both internal and external refugees, international students, children, and Ukrainian students. The program includes courses in foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, Ukrainian), Ukrainian culture and cross-cultural communication, diversity, entrepreneurship (social), gaming, and psychological adaptation;
- developed adaptation course for IDPs;
- professors, academic staff and students of NUWEE developed a website for IDPs. The resource has gathered and consolidated the most essential information for people who fled the war and found themselves in an unfamiliar place;
- NUWEE accommodates IDPs in the university dormitories.
During the war, the issue of quality education is acute. The academic and student community of NUWEE joined the national projects "Monitoring the consequences of the war in Ukraine using satellite images" and "Save Heritage."
Our students inspire us and give us hope, for they are the future of Ukraine. Despite the calamities and challenges of wartime, the campus is filled with young smiling faces. We are grateful to all our defenders for the opportunity to educate and shape the intellectual elite that will change the country.
During the first year of the war air attacks, blackouts led to the disruption of regular academic activities. We were forced to hold all the classes online. The safety and security of students, faculty, and staff became a primary concern. We have shelter in each of the academic building and student hostel of the University.
The war forced our international students to leave the country. But NUWEE displayed resilience, as faculty, students, and staff we are working tirelessly to maintain educational activities despite challenging circumstances.International support and collaboration played a crucial role in helping us to maintain, develop and recover and rebuild in the aftermath of conflict.
We are constantly improving, ensuring high quality of education and research and manage to volunteer every day, work for the good of our State and help the Armed Forces of Ukraine!
