STUDYING PROCESS

NUWEE carries out training of specialists according to educational and scientific programs.  Successful completion of education program leads to obtaining of appropriate educational level.
- Bachalor`s.
- Master`s.
- PhD.
Educational form - full time, part-time 
Language of study: Ukrainian, English.
Term of study: Bachelor`s degree – 3years and 10 months based on Secondary education certificate.
Master`s degree – 1 year and 4 months based on Bachelor’s degree diploma.
Study year starts on the1st of September and consists of 2 terms (autumn and spring). There are self–study weeks when students do not attend classes, they write reports and revise. After examination session, there are holidays, which are not less than 8 weeks within a year. 
Study week consists of 54 academic hours. Weekly study load cannot be more than 
24 hours for Bachelor`s degree
18 hours for Master`s degree 
16 hours for PhD
Study day consist of not more than 9 academic hours which include 6 hours of classroom training and other time is for self-studying. 
Academic hour is 40 minutes. Class comprise two academic hours. Classroom training is conducted according to the timetable. Academic load is calculated in ECTS credits. One credit is 30 hours of classroom training and self-studying.

Self-study work is an important part of studying process. Student can do this work at the library, study rooms, laboratory, and  also at the dormitories.

Self-study material along with classroom material is a part of module tests. Students are fully responsible for fulfilment of their studying plan. Students can be expelled if they fail to fulfil their studying plan. Evaluation of students is carried out according to current and final module tests. 100-point grading scheme is used to evaluate students` studying achievements. The evaluation results of disciplines, course projects, practice reports, diplomas and Master`s degree projects are converted into 4-point grading scheme. The teachers control the results of current module tests that show the ability of students to perform certain work and individual assignments of some theses or modules according to educational programs. Scientific supervisors control writing of Bachelor`s, Master`s and course project according to assignments and timetable. Practice supervisors control practice assignments according to program and timetable.

Points, which students got for certain assignments, are entered into electronic register of academic group after control tests but not less than once a month. All  the points have to be entered into electronic register by the  end of examination session.

Evaluation of current module control is calculated as following:

0-100 points is for finale control as a credit, Bachelor’s project and Master`s project. If students get 60 or more points, the credit is considered to be passed automatically if all assignments are fulfilled.  Module control is carried out during the semester according to educational program.

The final control shows the level of competencies achievement in accordance with the educational and qualification characteristics of specialist and it includes semester control and state final control. The form and the content of final control is defined by department and is brought to the attention of students at the beginning of semester. Form and terms of control are stated in educational program and include semester exams and credits of certain subjects according to educational program. Semester control in the form of credit is based on current control and students` presence is not obligatory. Total sum of points is entered into electronic register of academic group by the beginning of examination session.  Semester control in the form of exam is held according to timetable and students` presence is obligatory. There must be not less than 2 days between examination and pre-exam consultation is obligatory.

To receive satisfactory mark of semester control students must get not less than 60% of points for fulfilment of assignment.  If students receive less than 60 % of points, they can retake current tests according to individual plan approved by director of institute.  The studying results are evaluated according to two grading schemes. Students receive satisfactory marks  only if they fulfil all the assignments according to educational program  and  get not less 60 points for current and finale tests.

Students who get more than two unsatisfactory marks  during semestre control  can be expelled from university. Students who get two or one unsatisfectory mark during semestre control can repass them  by the beginning of semester.  Students who want to pass examination session earlier due to valid reason can do it according to  an idividual plan apprгced by a director of institute. Students who missed examinations get unsatisfactory marks and they get not more than 59 points for current modula control.

Course project, studying, pre-diploma project are evaluated from 0 to 100 points, including projects and reports —  up to 60 points, project defence — up to 40 points.  The students` presence is obligatory during studying, pre-diploma practice. State Examination Board  conducts state examination and defines the  preparation level   of  students to educational and qualification  characteristics of specialists. Students who fulfilled their educational plan  are allowed to take state examinations and to defend Bachalor`s  project. State examnation is a complex revision of professional and practical skills according to educational program of descipline. State Examination can last no more than 3 hours.  Students who fulfilled their educational plan  are allowed to take State Examination. Students who fail State Examination and do not defend Bachelor`s project  are expelled from university.

A student who received an unsatisfactory grade from a state examination or at a bachelor's defence, a diploma project is expelled from the university with academic reference. If a master's defence, diploma project is unsatisfactory, the State Examining Commission establishes whether a student can apply for the re-defense the same project  with revision, or he is obligated to work on a new topic determined by the Graduation Office.

A student who didn’t pass a state examination or didn’t  defend a bachelor's thesis, a diploma project, a master's work is allowed to re-exam state examinations or  bachelor's work, diploma project, master's work for three years after graduating from a higher educational establishment.

A student who has not passed a state examination or has not defend a bachelor's thesis, a diploma project, a master's work for a valid reason (documented), the rector of the university may extend duration of study to the next term of the state commission workwith passing examination or a bachelor's defence, diploma project, master's work, but not more than one year.

Students who have fully fulfilled the requirements of curriculum course, have successfully passed the current and final control,and by order of the rector is transferred to the next course.

 Students can be encouraged for their academic success, active participation in research or social work:

  • gratitude;
  • awarding a diploma, an expensive gift, a cash prize;
  • nominal scholarships or allowances;
  • concessional sports and health tours and more.

 Disciplinary penalties may be imposed on students for violating the internal rules and discipline:

  • reprimand;
  • eviction from hostel;
  • expelled from university.

Grounds for expelling from the university are:

  • for academic failure:
  1. a) without good reason did not fulfill the requirements of the semester curriculum;
  2. b) unsatisfactory grades from three or more disciplines during the examination session;
  3. c) did not liquidate academic debts in due time;
  4. d) received unsatisfactory grades in case of repeated exam (differential credit) from one discipline (no more than two times);
  • voluntarily;
  • violation of contract terms;
  • in connection with the transfer to another higher educational establishment;
  •  health reasons, based on the conclusion of the Medical Advisory Commission;
  • violation of  discipline and internal rules of order the university (omissions over than 33% of class lessons per semester, non-compliance with the rules of residence in hostels, offenses, etc.);

A person who is expelled from a higher educational establishment receives an academic reference before completing the training.

Academic leave may be provided to a student for medical reason and conclusion of  MAC's  student clinic. A student have right to take academic leave usually once during the whole period of study.

Renewal to student status is by rector of the university irrespective of duration breaks in study, reasons for expelling, length of service, form of training and successfully ability of applicant complete the curriculum of the educational process.

Renewal to student status is usually carried out with vacancies on a competitive basis by the admissions committee during the holidays. Renewal to student status at the first year is prohibited. Re-training may be provided to a student if he or she does notcomplete current semester of curriculum, prior to the examination session, due cause evidenced by relevant documents (due to prolonged or frequent illnesses, difficult family circumstances, in particular, the need to take care of family members, etc.). During the whole period of study, the student have right to take re-training (repeated course) no more than twice.

First-year students are not eligible for re-training.

A person who has been expelled from a higher educational establishment until the end of study has the right to renewal study in the licensed volume of a higher educational establishment. 

 The key to successful studying

Foreign students should attend classes, do their home assignments in time, enjoy sports and outdoors activities, have regular refreshment and rest, take part in the cultural and sport life of University. Self-training, attending language-labs and consulting with professors and tutors on a daily basis are obligatory for all students. The students should observe their class schedule, never miss classes or be late. Every student must know that regular academic work during the semester would spare much of pre-exam preparations.

Any student who has missed 20% or more of classes without any good reason will be expelled from the University.

Liability of Academic Rules Disobedience

Students, who miss classes without any good reason or fail to obey internal rules in University and halls of residence, become liable.

Foreign student, who violate the Laws of Ukraine, will be punished. The common from of punishment is reprimand. After the third reprimand, students can be expelled and they must leave the hall of residence.

In case of refusal to leave a country students can be deported and recognized as a persona non grata. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine must report to the Embassy of the country of students deportation.

Daily Routine and Exams

The classes begin and finish according to the timetable. A class lasts 80 minutes and there are breaks after each class. The students should be in time for classes. Students may consult with their professors during and after classes. The Dean’s offices and Centre for International Cooperation and Education receives students after 2 p.m. (14-00). Students are allowed to take exams after successfully passing credits, doing individual and laboratory work.

Grading scheme based on 100 points «0-59» - fail, «60-73» - satisfactory, «74-89» - good, «90-100» -exellent. «0-59» is considered to exam failure.

Academic Debts

Students are obliged to pass examinations and tests within the deadline. In case of exam students can retake exams within two weeks after examination session.

If the students fail three or more exams, they are expelled from the university due to the Academic debts.

Students are allowed to retake the exam in such cases:

- if the students did not pass exams because of the valid good reason;

- if the students did not pass one or two credits or exams or a credit and an exam.

The students will be allowed to pass credits or exams after submitting assignments in a given subject.

Students must submit the request and pay extra-charges for retaking exams or credits.

After student`s expulsion the students must leave the country within a certain time.

The Dean's office draws up a bill to be paid in the bank by a student. The receipt of payment is to be presented to the Dean's office, before permission for re-taking an examination or credit will be issued. In case of failure a student is expelled from the university and is obliged to leave the country according to set terms. The Dean's office sets the final date of departure.

Student`s request

If the students need any official documents from their Institute or Department of International Students Affairs, they need to submit an application stating full name, country, study group, essence of request.

Students can consult Department for International Students Affairs in case of any problems (Building № 2, r. 231).

Request is considered by the Head of Department of International Students Affairs and Vice-rector for Research and International Affairs of NUWEE.

Students’ applications and requests are considered by the Dean or his assistants.

The Dean’s offices receives students after 2 p.m. (14-00).
